A long wick gets filled — in the direction it points
Wick up, next candle tends to trade up into it. Wick down, next candle comes down to fill it.
What you see
- Small body, very long wick.
- The candle closes away from the wick.
- The wick sticks out past everything around it.
Why it happens
- The wick is one fast burst with almost no trade inside it.
- Closing below a long upper wick only means sellers won that candle.
- The space above stays open, so price returns to it.
How to trade it
- Trade toward the wick, not away from it.
- Targets: the wick's midpoint, then its tip.
- A fill is a target, not a signal on its own.
Journal it: Log the wick size, which way it pointed, and whether the next candle filled it.
